Why You Should Try Microneedling

Ever since I began microneedling my face a year ago, my skin has been changed. So I want to tell you why you should try microneedling too and experience this same euphoria for yourself.

What is Microneedling?

First off, you probably want to know what is microneedling. Well, without sounding too painful (which it’s not painful at all), you’re basically poking a bunch of teeny tiny little holes in the first layer of your skin with a tool that has hundreds of little needles on it. This helps any products you use penetrate better into your skin. Don’t worry, these holes in your skin heal on their own. The skin cells on your face naturally regenerate. During this regeneration of cells, the collagen production in your skin increases , which then helps with healing any scarring, preventing wrinkles, and creating an overall healthier and more glowy complexion.

As you age, your collagen production declines. Collagen is a protein that helps keep your skin looking youthful and plush. So I try to do anything I can to keep my collagen from going south too fast. Sure, I’m only 25 years old currently, but I know that in a blink of an eye I’m going to be 40+ and with older looking skin. So I’m doing everything I can to prolong a youthful appearance as long as I can.

Microneedling vs Supplements

You can also use face creams with collagen and put some collagen powder in your smoothies. However, these methods are not as tried-and-true as the natural collagen regeneration that occurs when microneedling. There’s a lot of skepticism and not enough research about the effectiveness of collagen supplements. Some say collagen supplements work. Others say it depends on which types of collagen are in the supplement, what is the quality of the collagen (bad quality can lead to mad cow disease), and also keep in mind that supplements are not regulated by the FDA. You basically don’t get a guarantee when it comes to supplements as a method of increasing collagen in your body. However, with microneedling, you’re forcing your skin cells to regenerate periodically, causing new skin growth and increasing collagen production. So you have a better chance at collagen production with microneedling than with supplements.

Microneedling At Home vs At Dermatologist

Now here’s where the waters get a little murky.

I think that you can probably guess that I’m going to say that it’s best to get microneedling done professionally at a dermatologist. You’ll see that this is advised from everyone and all the research articles out there.

Microneedling at home is not advised due to the following reasons:

ONE. It’s less effective. The needles you’ll find on the tools that you can use at home are shorter and less sharp than the ones that a dermatologist’s office may use. Since they are shorter and less sharp, they won’t penetrate as deeply into your skin, which then decreases its effectiveness.

TWO. It’s less sanitary. A dermatologist’s office has professional grade sanitizers that help keep the needles from spreading any bacteria.

Why I Still Microneedle at Home

Despite the points above, I personally still microneedle at home using my Beauty Bio GloPro.

ONE. I believe that even the smallest bit is still helpful to my skin. Although my at-home microneedling kit has shorter and less sharp needles, I’ve still seen amazing results from my sessions. So has my sister. We’ve both noticed that our complexion is more even, more bright, and more glowy.

TWO. To help sanitize my at-home tool, I clean it with rubbing alcohol after each use. You will also want to replace the needle heads every 2-3 months so that you are not using something that has become super dull after being used so often.

If I’m being completely honest, a reason I continue to microneedle at home instead of going to a dermatologist is because microneedling in my area can cost me hundreds of dollars for one session. And I am not into the idea of dropping that much money into a service that I can do at home. Sure, doing it at home is not as effective, but I’m still seeing great results from it so I don’t see a reason to stop.

In Conclusion

Whether you get it done professionally at a dermatologist or do it at home like me, you need to start microneedling. The benefits are tremendous. Even if you try microneedling only once, you’ll notice how much more glowy your skin is and you’ll be hooked. Trust me.
