Starting a New Chapter

Starting to write this blog post is giving me a mix of emotions. I’m both so excited and nervous for this new chapter in my life but I’m also so relieved and happy that this is where my life is headed and where our family’s future is headed.

Hi friend, my name is Alena Votchits and I am now a real estate agent!

In the past 6 months, my life took a turn I was not anticipating. However, I am actually very happy that it took this turn because I’ve honestly never been happier about my life and where it’s going.

Some of you may already know, but I actually have spent 3 years as a property manager previously. My first exposure to the real estate industry was while I was still working on completing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. I’ve grown very fascinated with the industry and took a real estate fundamentals course during one of my semesters. Although I wanted to get my real estate license then, I had so many other things on my plate that I couldn’t make the time for it. Plus, I had a really good job as a property manager so I kept going with it and thought that I would stay in this position forever. I genuinely LOVED my responsibilities and what I did day-to-day.

However, in 2017, I was presented with an offer I could not refuse for a position in a field outside of real estate. I was 23 at the time so I thought “Why not try something new and see what else is out there in the world for me?!” I mean, I was young (and still am LOL) and the world was my oyster. So for two years, I worked for a company that sold kitchen cabinets and managed a lot of their back end operations.  This position involved a lot of contractors and investors since they were all looking for kitchen cabinets for their properties. Anytime I had a conversation with them, it was a highlight of my day and slowly in 2019 I started to miss the real estate industry. Anytime I would hang out with a coworker of mine, our conversations would at some point lead to how much I’ve missed the industry.

By the end of summer 2019, I decided to finish my real estate courses simply because the topic really interested me and I had the time for it so “Why not!” I honestly had no intention to leave my job….until the fall season hit. My husband and I had sooo many discussions about whether this would be the right step for us or not. I was leaving a 9-5 job for a 24/7 one! I spoke with several different realtors during those days because I didn’t want to switch jobs again that I might end up leaving due to getting bored! At the end of it all, we decided that this IS the right step in the right direction.  That’s when I gave in my two-month resignation notice and left in December.

It’s been a long, hard journey since then. Your first year as a real estate agent is NO JOKE, friends! But I knew this going in and have loved every minute of it so far. I’ve joined one of the top brokerages in the city, Keller Williams Philadelphia (located at 1619 Walnut St, 5th Floor).

So if you are looking to buy, sell, rent or invest in Philadelphia or the surrounding suburbs, send me an email at alena.votchits@kw.com or give me a call/text at 267.270.1593!

Let’s find your loveliest home!
