My Pregnancy So Far | Q&A

Hello friends! It’s been quite a while since I’ve written on my blog! And I’m so excited to be back! I’ve certainly missed not having the time or energy left in my day to write and share on this little corner of the internet. Before I return to my regular genre of content on my blog, I thought I’d post an update on a big change coming to my life: I’m pregnant!

unique pregnancy announcement

We found out on July 26, 2023 that we were expecting a baby. In mid-September I shared our pregnancy announcement on instagram (be sure to check it out if you haven’t seen it yet!) and at 14 weeks we found out it is a baby girl!

I haven’t shared too much about the pregnancy thus far, so I asked on my IG if anyone had any questions about my experience. I thought it’d make a great post to return with for those interested, so let’s get into it!

HOW’D YOU BREAK THE NEWS TO HUBS/FAMILY?

I couldn’t wait to buy any supplies to tell my husband in a cute way, I needed to tell him immediately. While I was waiting for him to get home, I already downloaded the “What to Expect” app, did the math of when the baby was approximately conceived, and it all told me that the baby was roughly the size of a mustard seed. As soon as he got home on Wednesday July 26th, the conversation went something like this (to preface, hubs and I love to banter and mess with each other):

ME: Do you see this mustard seed?

HUBS: Yes.

ME: *jokingly* This is how much patience I have left with you….

HUBS: *joking back* No no no this is how much I have left with you.

ME: ….this is also the size of the baby growing inside of me…

HUBS: *mouth open in shock*

So yea, my husband was quite shocked šŸ˜‚

As for parents, we gave them a gift to unwrap. Inside was a picture frame with a photo of the ultrasound and writing that said “hello grandma & grandpa.” Both sets of parents did not read the text at first and thought we were gifting them an empty frame šŸ˜… but then once we told them to read what it says they understood and were very excited!

HOW ARE YOU FEELING?

As I write this post, I am 20 weeks pregnant, halfway there! I truly feel like I hit the lottery with this pregnancy. I expected it to be soooo much worse.

My first trimester was mostly a breeze. I felt absolutely zero nausea and never felt the need to vomit. The only reason I took a pregnancy test was because my period was a week late. It’s usually a couple days late so I didn’t think too much of it but decided to take a test just in case. But there were no symptoms to make me think that I could be pregnant.

The worst symptom I’ve had during my first trimester was extreme tiredness, which started a few days after I took the pregnancy test. I required a nap every single day. Otherwise my brain would literally shut down after 1pm. I also felt extremely bloated on a daily basis. Besides extreme tiredness and bloat, I didn’t get any other symptoms.

I’ve had an increase in energy as I started my second trimester but I still require a nap every couple of days. My appetite has picked up a bit lately but not too much. No cravings, no aversions. Overall I’ve been feeling really fortunate and good so far in this pregnancy.

HOW ARE YOU NOT OVERWHELMED?

I am most certainly overwhelmed šŸ˜‚ Geez Louise there is so much to learn and figure out now. Especially since I did not grow up around any babies in my life, I have no idea what to do with one! šŸ˜‚ The idea of giving birth scares me too but it’s also comforting to know women have been doing this for ages and the fact that labor eventually ends!

DO YOU LIKE BEING PREGNANT?

I don’t mind it. Especially since it’s been relatively easy thus far. I do not see myself being one of those women that goes “Oh I loved being pregnant!” I prefer my body when it’s not pregnant more, but I also don’t hate being pregnant.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR PARENTING APPROACH?

Not too much yet, haven’t really figured that part out 100% yet. I have a short list of ways I do and don’t want to raise my child. But I also want to read more books about parenting to help with this. I’ve heard really great things so far about “Good Inside” by Dr Becky Kennedy and plan to read it as some point. If there are any other books/podcasts you think I should read about parenting, I’d love to know!

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN LOVING ABOUT PREGNANCY SO FAR?

Besides the fact that it’s been kind to me so far, I love that I have an excuse to take a guilt free mid-day nap or sleep in and no one can judge me LOL. I’ve also been liking planning the nursery and all the adorable stuff that comes along with having a baby!

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PART OF BEING PREGNANT?

Definitely the bloat in the first trimester and constipation šŸ™ˆ that came in the second trimester! I’ve also been having the hardest time figuring out what to wear so I’ve been rotating 3 different outfits whenever I see people šŸ˜… My goal for this month is to make a list of pregnancy outfit “uniforms” I want to wear the next few months and buy pieces for those outfits. I do love that I now have a great excuse to wear leggings 24/7 for the next 4-5 months though!

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR BIRTH PLAN YET?

Yes but nothing is solidified at this point. A month ago I found out my OB office that I’ve been loving so far is now closing down and so I’ve been thrown for a bit of a loop. As of when I write this post, I’m still deciding which hospital I want to go with. On the one hand, I feel like I should choose the option that most people I know go with, but I also wonder if other options are better šŸ˜† so I’ve been torn. If you’ve given birth in Bucks County, I’d love to hear your birth plan/story and if you liked it or wish you did something else.

WHEN ARE YOU DUE?

First week of April 2024!

WAS THIS A SURPRISE OR PLANNED PREGNANCY?

Hubs and I were no longer being careful when having fun so it wasn’t really a surprise, but it was also still a surprise. We planned to officially start trying to get pregnant September/October of this year (2023) but then I found out I was pregnant end of July 2023. Prior to that, we were not in any rush to have a baby, especially since 90% of our friends do not have babies so we were still just enjoying our child-free life.

I hope you enjoyed this first blog post back on LEL! I’ll be uploading a vlog soon to my YouTube channel with a few more life updates so be sure to keep an eye out for that! In the meantime, be sure to check out the other posts on my blog here.
